The Celebs Go Dating Star has died after battling a ‘long illness.’
The TV personality was 57, and rose to fame as an original dating coach on the hit series.
For those who aren’t familiar with the concept, a group of celebrities are tasked with dating members of the public, with the aim of striking up romantic relationships.
Expert matchmakers from the dating agency pair them with people they are most suited to on paper, making connections feel like a more achievable goal.
With expert advice and well-matched dates, it sounds like a recipe for success, but it often isn’t the case.
But the family of the original dating coach took to Instagram to announce the sad news just yesterday (June 24).
It’s not known what illness the star was battling, but his family noted that he ‘carried it with grace’.
They also asked for ‘privacy’ as they navigate the devastating loss.
Eden Blackman started as an expert on the show in 2016, and announced his exit after a fallout in March 2018.
Following his departure, he became involved in a lawsuit with former co-star Nadia Essex, after she sued him and the show’s production team, for gender-based discrimination and harassment.
Following this, she set up numerous fake Twitter accounts to troll Eden, and made false allegations about his personal life.
Despite admitting to the trolling, and taking accountability, she later blamed her behaviour on her mental state, which she said was caused by harassment she’d experienced over the two years she worked on Celebs Go Dating.
Taking to Instagram to announce their heartbreaking news, his family writes: “Eden blazed through life with charm, mischief and a fire that was entirely his own, magnetic, stylish, sharp, impossibly handsome and always up for the adventure.
“Music was his first love and constant companion, a pulse that shaped who he was, and he carved his path through that world with instinct, passion and deep care for the people he worked with.”
The family notes that they will carry his kind ‘spirit’ with them always.
Friends of the TV personality flooded the comments with sweet tributes.
Fellow Celebs Go Dating star Tom Read Wilson, says: “This is so very sad.
“I will always be hugely grateful for his kindness and generosity of spirit.”
Dating expert on the show, and podcaster Paul C Brunson, adds: “Sending love and deepest condolences.
“I never met Eden, but we were forever linked through Celebs Go Dating.
“He showed me kindness when he didn’t have to, and I’ll never forget it. May he rest in paradise.”
Co-host of the E4 series, Anna Williamson, writes: “Eden was always incredibly kind and supportive to me and I am truly so sad to hear of his passing.
“My love goes out to all of his family and friends.”
