Disney fans think they’ve finally uncovered who Riley from Inside Out grows up to become.
Disney films are known for their magical storytelling and are widely recognised for their hidden ‘easter eggs.’
These subtle, yet clever eggs are often nods or references to Disney characters or films, and are loved by fans who enjoy spotting them throughout films.
There are many that spring to mind, such as in Aladdin, the Genie pulls out Sebastian from The Little Mermaid during a musical number.
Similarly, it’s also incorporated in Pixar films, which fall under Disney, featuring the Pizza Planet truck, a recurring vehicle that has appeared in everything from Toy Story to Finding Nemo.
Disney encourages and embraces the easter eggs, leading viewers to rewatch their films, and it gives the movies a sense of nostalgia.
Some nods are clear and intentional, but others are often subtle or debatable.
Instagram user @asheleysspam posted a video making multiple Disney film links with the hit Pixar film Inside Out.
The viral post has caused a debate among animation lovers, some siding with the user’s theory while others disagree.
One person wrote: “Holy moly. It all makes sense.”
“NO WAY. That is actually crazy,” a second responded.
A third typed: “This is crazy, you are so right!”
So the theorists believed that Riley from the Inside Out franchise grows up to be Andy’s mum from Toy Story.
Asheley points out that they both have fair hair, blue eyes, and similar facial bone structures.
Not only physical features, but the Instagram user also includes clips of both films to support her thesis.
In the 2015 Pixar film, Joy, one of the emotions pulls out a happy memory orb, which shows Riley as a child going down a slide.
Then, in Toy Story, the exact same playground set is also shown on screen.
Ashley also links Boo from Monsters Inc. to Inside Out, showing that both characters have the same ‘Turning Red’ boy band poster on their bedroom walls.
There is also a character in the film who wears all purple with a fringe and a pigtail hairstyle, which the Instagram user believes is the character Boo grown up in Inside Out.
Not only this, but the Chinese takeout containers in films such as Inside Out, The Incredibles, and Bug’s Life are all from the exact same place.
Despite Ashley’s in-depth video, some people aren’t convinced.
One person wrote: “Or maybe, hear me out … Disney wanted to take shortcuts and reused assets?”
“Reaching far too hard,” a second added. “They love referencing their own movies in new movies.”
A third replied: “Inside Out takes place in modern times. Toy Story is 1999, so unless she’s a time traveler, Riley isn’t Andy’s mom.”
