Tributes in the comments have poured in from fans and fellow legends alike, as one wrote: “Incredibly sad.

“Was a privilege to work with him albeit ever so briefly. RIP.”

Another said: “Oh no, sad to hear.

“His work on Harry Potter movies alone was pure magic it has left such an indelible mark on me as a fan of the books. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

The award-winning production designer is Stuart Craig, who died at the age of 83 after battling Parkinson’s disease for a number of years.

The Guild shared a tribute from Neil Lamont, who was mentored by Craig, and revealed that he died on Saturday (September 6).

He noted: “Stuart was the U.K.’s and, most probably, cinema’s most revered film designer, winner of 3 Oscars, Gandhi, Dangerous Liaisons, and The English Patient, and many other awards. A true giant!”

Lamont added: “I bet that anyone you ask, ‘which designer would you like to work with the most?’ the answer 100 percent would be Stuart Craig, and anyone who met him will remember their encounter forever.”

While working on the eight Harry Potter films, he also designed the Fantastic Beasts trilogy.

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Stuart Craig was the person who brought Harry Potter locations to life: Hogwarts castle (both inside and out), the Ministry of Magic, Diagon Alley, and much more.

“Wands up for an absolute legend, RIP.”

Lamont later described him as a ‘great tutor.’

He added: “The experiences I had not only allowed me to see Stuarts talent, his beautiful sketches, pencil drawings and vision, but also the way which he conducted himself in all walks of life, in the studio, the car, restaurants.

“A true gentleman, with grace, kindness, and humility.”

Another fan described him as ‘one of the greatest film production designers ever to live.’

As well as the most famous, Craig worked on various films, including The Elephant Man, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, Cry Freedom, Chaplin and The Secret Garden.
