Love Actually Star Has Died

A Love Actually Star has died following a ‘short and brave’ battle with cancer.

An actress who starred in the much-loved Christmas classic has died at the age of 72.

On top of her iconic role in Love Actually, the star also featured in U.K. soap EastEnders, as well as Casualty, The Bill, Pie in the Sky, and Little Britain.

Tributes to the actress have flooded in following the tragic news.

Many family members, friends, and former co-stars attended her funeral on Tuesday (July 15).

The celebrant, Jo Moore, noted that the star had left ‘an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she reached.’

Lifelong friend of the star, Gill, said: “Her life was a wonderful, elaborate, kaleidoscope with different sections for each of her passions, and only she was at the centre.

“In many ways she was a contradiction – a flamboyant extrovert, a superb wit, a natural communicator and yet, at the same time, an introspective loner.”

She added: “We all thought we knew her so well but, in reality, we each only knew and loved one aspect of her.”

The actress starred alongside Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon in the 2003 film, and played the character of Natalie’s (played by McCutcheon) mom.

In one iconic scene, Jo Bacon, who died earlier this week, can be seen opening the front door alongside her family, to be greeted by the Prime Minister who was in love with her daughter.

Joanna spoke about her cancer diagnosis earlier in the year.

She reportedly said: “I have had a brilliant life.

“I have been so lucky to do the things I have done and to have met the wonderful people I have met.

“I have no regrets.”

The U.K.’s Harlow Theatre Company were the first to publicly announce her death.

In a statement, they said: “Many of our members will remember Jo and her force of nature, her wit, her fun, her passion and her natural ability as an actor.”

Another friend, Barry Bowen, said: “The thing I remember and love most about her, that I suspected in those early local days, and it proved true in spades as the years went by, was her unfailing loyalty to her friends.

“If Jo had wanted to be anything other than the humble person we all knew, she was so well equipped to be a name dropper.

“Sharing stages and studios with the likes of Redgrave, O’Toole, Mirren, Bates, Rickman, Grant, Firth and Freeman, were a silent compliment to her.”

Martin Freeman was among the mourners at her funeral.

The celebrant at her funeral added: “Jo’s talent as an actor was a gift that she shared with the world.

“On stage and on screen, she brought us joy, laughter, and inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she reached.

“She was a woman of many talents and facets.”
