Netflix Fans ‘Can’t Sleep’ After Binge-Watching ‘Disturbing’ Horror Movie

A Netflix horror is leaving viewers ‘disturbed in the best way’ as some say they ‘couldn’t sleep’ after watching.

If there’s nothing you love more than a disturbing psychological horror, you’re in the right place.

Netflix subscribers have rediscovered a disturbing folk horror set in the early 1900s.

The film stars Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens, alongside a whole host of star-studded talent including Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Star Wars actor Mark Lewis Jones, and Paul Higgins.

Praise for the film, which was originally released in 2018, has soared online, with many noting that it is a ‘quality’ horror.

One wrote: “As a huge fan of quality horror films, this stands out. A slow burn of anxiety and dread.”

Another added: “It doesn’t shy away from gore, but the violence is by no means senseless here.”

Others noted that the film left them unable to sleep.

A third viewer said: “Why did I watch this alone at night. I can’t sleep now.”

“Dan Stevens is brilliant in this, but I’m honestly going to need therapy after that ending,” another said.

The horror currently has a 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and continues to garner attention from fans.

Apostle, the film everyone’s talking about, follows the story of Thomas, who travels to a remote island after learning that his sister was kidnapped, and is being held captive there.

Her captors are part of a cult led by Malcolm Howe, played by Sheen.

Malcolm and the gang believe that the community must be kept alive through performing dark rituals.

But Thomas decides to fight back, which they did not expect.

The horror contains graphic violence, and viewers are taken on a deep dive into the disturbing beliefs of the group, as Thomas uncovers what is really going on.

But some viewers aren’t so struck with the film.

One said: “Watching wet paint dry would have been more interesting.”

As another agreed, and added: “It started out strong with good acting. Then 45 minutes of total boredom.

“Then it picked up again but became muddled and confused.”

But some fans compared it to The Wicker Man, describing it as ‘disturbing in the best way.’

Even critics who didn’t like the film praised the cast for an outstanding performance.

While some say the pace is just too slow, others would say the tension is built slowly, which just adds to eerie feel.

One fan said: “Don’t believe any bad reviews on this.

“The movie knows what it wants to be and does it extremely well.

“Well acted, very well shot and ultimately very satisfying too.”

As another expressed: “Amazing movie.

“Starts off a little slow and picks up a lot in the middle. Pretty gory.”
