New TV Series That’s Better Than Stranger Things Dubbed ‘Scariest TV Show Of The Year’

A new TV series that has been branded ‘better than Stranger Things‘ has been called the ‘scariest’ of the year by viewers.

After what could only be described as a chaotic and exhilarating journey for Stranger Things fans since the first episode aired in 2016, many were left feeling somewhat disappointed by the final series.

And while many expected the series to go out with an almighty bang, it seems that Stranger Things 5 didn’t land quite as well as creators, the Duffer brothers, might have hoped for.

Stranger Things season five criticism

One viewer on Reddit wrote: “I don’t hate it, but I’m definitely underwhelmed.

“They played it WAY too safe.”

As another added: “If its just a standalone season, its not bad.

“But a series as a whole, meh. Disappointed that many of the lore was forgotten.”

Another let-down viewer said: “Just disappointing given how many FAN theories were so much better than a very easy fight scene and an hour of character development.”

However, it wasn’t all bad press for the final series, despite the resounding backlash.

“I am happy with it.”

One partially-satisfied fan wrote: “I don’t think all the criticisms are totally valid because I don’t think most people paid enough attention throughout the series to know what the hell they’re complaining about, but I do think it could have been wayyy better after knowing what they came up with in S3 and S4.”

Another added: “I am happy with it. Epilogue hit every emotional button possible.”

But some fans are convinced that it’s not quite the very end for the franchise just yet.

It’s been a week since we said goodbye to the characters in Hawkins, but many fans have devised a theory that another ‘secret’ final episode is on its way.

‘Conformity Gate.’

While there was dispute among viewers whether or not Eleven survived in the final episodes, one thing is for sure – there were no major deaths.

This is despite the Duffer brothers promising fans a ‘very brutal’ and ‘violent’ end to the franchise.

While it could be nothing more than wishful thinking from devoted fans, a number of theories have arisen about a secret final episode, which the community are calling ‘Conformity Gate.’

It claims that a surprise episode could be released today (January 7), pointing to numerous inconsistencies that hint Vecna may have been pulling the strings all along.

However, despite fans still demanding answers to many questions, while holding onto hope that the Duffer brothers would give fans a bonus secret ep, it seems as if Stranger Things is well and truly over.

What can fans watch next?

Which leaves fans looking for their next dark and otherworldly series to become obsessed with.

And it’s good news, because there’s TV series that fans are branding better than Stranger Things.

The 2025 prequel horror series drew in 6.5M US viewers for the conclusion to its first season, and it’s received some glowing reviews.

Taking to Reddit, one fan wrote: “I’m genuinely impressed at how great this show is in every way.

“Writing, directing, acting…even some more specific things like the exterior and interior sets, and prop design. It really exceeded my expectations.”

Another added: “I went into this with modest expectations, especially since I watched it alongside another massive release, Stranger Things season 5.

“To my own surprise, I found myself far more hooked on this dark prequel about a demonic clown than on the familiar adventures of the teens in Hawkins.”

A third viewer said: “The narrative is engaging, well-paced, and truly captures the eerie essence of the universe.

“The characters feel real, the town’s atmosphere is chilling, and the plot unfolds with precision, keeping you hooked throughout the season.”

However, the reviews haven’t all been 10/10, some had a different experience with the horror.

Some noted that the show is too similar to Stranger Things, and there has definitely been some debate.

One unimpressed viewer wrote: “It’s just bland as a show in general.

“Literally every scare sequence has the same pacing and jump scare.”

Another added: “I can’t speak for anyone else, but it gives me the exact same vibe as every other horror movie that got unnecessarily turned into a TV show.

“It’s just the same story we already know, except that it’s longer and slower, and that’s not compelling enough to me.”

“One of the best horror shows.”

Despite sharing these thoughts, others felt the show was one of the scariest they’d ever seen.

Some even went as far as to say it made them ‘cry.’

One said: “While tears weren’t falling down my cheek or anything, I could most definitely feel tears in my eyes.”

Another added: “The first two episodes were WILDLY gorey and intense.

“I’m questioning if this is going to be one of the best horror shows we’ve had from a gore and monster perspective.”
