A star of The Crown has sadly died.

Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment world following the death of a respected actor who brought decades of experience and talent to the stage and screen.

He leaves behind a rich legacy in British television and theatre.

Audiences may remember him most recently from his appearance in the globally acclaimed Netflix drama The Crown, a TV series praised for its compelling dramatization of the British royal family across the decades.

First released in 2016, The Crown quickly became a cultural phenomenon, lauded for its writing, historical detail, and award-winning performances.

The show has featured a rotating cast portraying different eras of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, and its production values and storytelling have earned widespread acclaim.

With a career spanning over 60 years, he was a familiar face to British audiences. He appeared in a variety of television series, including Touch of Frost, in which he portrayed a pathologist, a role that became one of his most recognized.

He also held parts in The History Boys, Midsomer Murders, Without Motive, and Bye, Bye Baby.

His contributions extended well beyond the small screen. A seasoned stage actor, he featured in productions such as The Importance of Being Earnest and The School for Scandal.

His performance in Pressure was even attended by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

He also appeared in musical theatre, taking on a role in Guys and Dolls with the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company.

As a voice actor, his talents were showcased in productions like The Judgement of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who: The Lost Stories, further demonstrating the breadth of his work.

David Killick also played the role of Mess President in season five of The Crown.

Born in Edmonton, North London, in 1938, Killick continued to perform well into his later years.

His final known stage appearance was in a 2024 production of Witness For The Prosecution, which was well received by audiences and critics alike.

His death was confirmed by his agency, Stanton Davidson Associates.

In a statement, they shared: “It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our much-loved friend and client… He died peacefully on Friday, 4th July at St John’s Hospice, North London after a short illness.”

He was 87.
