Wednesday fans have been left horrified after finding out why Xavier isn’t in season two.
Nearly three years after the first season took Netflix by storm, Wednesday Addams is officially back to darken our screens.
Season 2 of the Tim Burton-directed series premiered on August 6, 2025, marking the return of everyone’s favorite gothic outcast to Nevermore Academy.
Netflix has adopted a two-part release strategy for Wednesday Season 2, per Tudum.
Part 1, consisting of episodes 1-4, is now streaming, while Part 2 will arrive on September 3, 2025 – perfectly timed for the Halloween season.
Season 2 promises to be darker and more complex than its predecessor.
“This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” explain co-showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
The new season brings Wednesday face-to-face with her worst nightmare: family interference at school. Her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) arrives on campus, struggling with his electrokinesis powers and trying to fit into his sister’s shadow.
Meanwhile, parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) will have much more prominent roles, having been upgraded to series regulars.
According to creator Miles Millar: “Nothing is what it seems in Season 2. Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting.”
The season introduces several exciting new characters that expand the world of Wednesday.
Steve Buscemi joins the cast as Principal Barry Dort, Nevermore Academy’s mysterious new headmaster, while Joanna Lumley takes on the role of Grandmama Hester Frump, Morticia’s formidable and commanding mother.
Lady Gaga is set to appear in Part 2 as Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary teacher at Nevermore.
New series regulars include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor.
Additionally, the season features a strong lineup of guest stars, including Christopher Lloyd, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, and Heather Matarazzo.
Tim Burton returns as director and executive producer, with the series filmed in Ireland this time around (a change from Season 1’s Romanian locations).
The production officially wrapped in December 2024 after delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, with new supernatural mysteries plaguing Nevermore Academy.
The trailer reveals that Wednesday has a disturbing vision of her roommate Enid’s (Emma Myers) death, which she believes is her fault.
This vision, marked by Wednesday’s signature black tears, sets the tone for what promises to be the series’ most intense season yet, Deadline claims.
The anticipation for Season 2 is well-founded, given the first season’s unprecedented success. Wednesday became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, with over 252 million views to date, per Forbes.
It spent 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries. The series also earned 12 Emmy nominations, including a historic nomination for Jenna Ortega in the Lead Actress category.
With Season 3 already confirmed by Netflix, Wednesday’s story at Nevermore Academy is far from over.
The creators have hinted at an expanded Addams Family universe, with a Uncle Fester spinoff series already in development.

But one significant change is the absence of Percy Hynes White’s Xavier Thorpe.
The character, who served as a love interest and fellow psychic in Season 1, won’t be returning.
His departure was confirmed in May 2024, coinciding with teases that the show would be ‘moving away from Wednesday Addams’ divisive love triangle,’ Screen Rant reports.
Given that Xavier’s storyline was still open at the end of season 1, season 2 takes time to explain his absence directly within the narrative.
In season 2, episode 1, as the Outcasts return to Nevermore Academy, Barry Dort informs Morticia Addams that Xavier’s father, Vincent Thorpe, has withdrawn both his son and his financial endowment from the school.
Dort explains that the position of chair of the Gala Fundraising Committee is now vacant because ‘Vincent Thorpe pulled both Xavier and his endowment from the school.’
The decision followed the events of season 1, in which Xavier was falsely accused of murder and briefly jailed before the real killer, Tyler (The Hyde), was revealed.
To underscore that Xavier will not return, the show states he now attends Reichenback Academy in Switzerland. Little is known about the school, but Gomez Addams mentions: “I spent a summer studying abroad there,” indicating its historic role in Outcast education.

Netflix has not officially disclosed why Percy Hynes White did not return for season 2. However, his exit came after a year-long online controversy that began in January 2023, when allegations of s**ual assault against the actor surfaced.
Hynes White denied the claims, saying per IndieWire: “Someone I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online.”
Neither Netflix nor the show’s creators have publicly linked his absence to the controversy, and cast and crew have avoided direct comments.
However, lead actress Jenna Ortega addressed the absence in August 2024, saying to Vanity Fair: “It’s a weird redirect, but we’re introducing so many characters that I think it will kind of get lost.”
Although Percy Hynes White does not appear in season 2, Xavier is still involved in the storyline.
At the end of episode 1, Wednesday receives a note from Xavier explaining that he had tried to text her, but she must have lost the phone he gave her – ‘in reality, she dropped it in boiling liquid.’
As a parting gift, Xavier sends her a painting of a one-eyed crow he saw in a psychic vision, writing: “I don’t know what it means, but I’m sure that it’s connected to you.”
The painting turns out to be important, supporting Wednesday’s suspicions about a deeper mystery linked to the new murders in Jericho, much like Xavier’s prophetic paintings of the Hyde in season 1.
