Sweet nibblets! Miley Cyrus is officially returning to her Disney roots for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special – and yes, it’s already shaping up to be the nostalgia event of the decade.
The iconic series, which aired on Disney Channel from 2006 to 2011, defined a generation.
Miley played everyday teen Miley Stewart by day and global pop sensation Hannah Montana by night, proving all it really took to live a double life was a blonde wig, a dream closet (still thinking about it), and a killer voice.
Even if you weren’t a die-hard fan, you definitely know bangers like ‘Best of Both Worlds,’ ‘Gonna Get This,’ and ‘Nobody’s Perfect.’

The Announcement
After months of teasing, Miley finally made it official on February 17. She posted a clip on socials featuring a black-and-gold stiletto stepping out of a Mustang with the iconic “HM” license plate, and the internet absolutely lost it.
In a joint Instagram post with Disney+ and Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, Miley revealed that the “Hannah-versary” special will hit the platform exactly 20 years after the show first premiered.

“It’s the perfect way to celebrate 20 years,” a fan says. “If it was an episode, I’d watch it. If it was a tour, I’d pay for the tickets. And this Disney+ special, I will be watching it as well.”
Fans are ecstatic at the possibility of Miley going on a world tour off the back of the anniversary special.
“I would sell a lung for that. That would be incredible,” another fan says.

What’s Happening in the Special
Expect a heavy dose of nostalgia – the good kind. Think behind-the-scenes moments, surprise guest appearances, and (potentially) musical performances.
At the heart of it all, Miley Cyrus will sit down for an interview in front of a live studio audience with none other than the Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper.
The two have already showed undeniable chemistry when the Grammy winner appeared on the podcast back in 2020.
“I think I was surprised [with] how open Miley was in that interview,” Cooper said of the experience in 2024. “I feel like we’re just two girls talking on a couch and hanging out like friends.”
Alongside with the interview, the special will feature never-before-seen archival footage, as well as rebuilt versions of the iconic sets from the show, including the Stewart family living room and Hannah’s rotating closet.
What Has Miley Been Up To Since?
Life imitated art for the “Wrecking Ball” singer, who gained international recognition after the show ended.
After Hannah Montana, she launched her debut album Meet Miley Cyrus in 2007, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
From there, she put out hit after hit: Bangerz, Breakout, and chart-dominating singles like ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘Flowers,’ both of which sat at No. 1 for weeks.
She’s collaborated with everyone from her dad Billy Ray Cyrus to Dua Lipa, Wiz Khalifa, will.i.am, and Lil Nas X, and has a current net worth of $160 million.
But, despite rising to international stardom at a young age, fame hasn’t really changed her – not in the ways that matter, at least. As she sings in Hanna Montana: The Movie ‘you can laugh and cry but everybody knows, you’ll always find your way back home.’
Who Is Coming Back for the Hanna Montana 20th Anniversary Special?
So far, Miley is the only confirmed cast member who’s returning for the special — but we’re not ruling out messages or appearances from her castmates yet.
Recently, Emily Osment, who played Lilly Truscott (Miley’s loyal onscreen best friend), reminisced about her HM era too.
She posted a photo of a show script on February 5, with the following caption:
“On the heels of our Hannah Montana 20 year milestone, our beloved Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage director Mark Cendrowski brought in his old copy of an HM episode this morning.
“Proves a few things. First, that I’m old, second that I’m still doing what I love but mostly, MOSTLY that Mark won’t leave me alone after all these years and I’m really starting to freak out about it.”
Could that mean something more? Well, we sure hope so…
Other cast members include Miley’s real-life dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, and Moisés Arias.

Will Miley Perform as Hannah?
If you’ve heard the rumors about Miley putting on her Hannah wig for a Madison Square Garden concert, sorry to disappoint you.
While this one-night-only performance turned out to be fake news, it’s unclear whether Miley will actually step into Hannah’s pumps one more time for the televised special.
But Disney teased ‘there will also be some familiar notes that find their way back into the spotlight.’
What Has Miley Said About The Special?
“Hannah Montana will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” Miley said in Disney+’s press release.
She went on to thank her fans for standing by her all these years and expressed how proud she is of the show’s legacy and lasting impact.
“This ‘Hannah-versary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years,” she added.
Miley had already teased the project in July 2025, when she told Ryan Seacrest she wanted to design “something really, really special” for the anniversary, because it really was “the beginning of all of this that now sits here today.”
“Without Hannah, there really wouldn’t be this…me,” she continued. “It’s so crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought would be impossible to shed, and now, that’s something that when I walk into a space, it’s looked at as this sense of nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood.”
She then confirmed the plans at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Film Awards earlier this year, when she claimed she was “working really hard” on her Hannah Montana anniversary plans.
