Netflix Fans Hooked On ‘Perfect’ New Drama With Insane Plot Twist

A new Netflix drama has fans hooked thanks to its insane plot twists.

Netflix subscribers are absolutely losing their minds over the streaming giant’s latest offering, with viewers describing it as a ‘masterpiece’ and racing through all eight episodes in single sittings.

Social media has been ablaze with praise since the show dropped, with fans declaring they ‘can’t stop watching.’

One particularly enthusiastic viewer shared on Reddit: “Bateman and Law absolutely killed it” in their respective roles, while another fan gushed on IMDB: “I’ve never watched a series this fast but it was compelling, well thought out, brilliantly acted and most likely the best Netflix film or series I’ve seen.”

The show has clearly struck a chord with audiences, quickly climbing to the number two spot in Netflix UK’s top 10 series chart within days of its release.

While fan reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, critics have offered a more measured response.

The series currently holds a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from professional reviewers, though this hasn’t dampened viewer enthusiasm.

Original Cin praised the production as ‘a well-plotted, tense, engrossing thriller, populated by strongly drawn, richly interesting characters,’ noting that it ‘plays like an intense New York crime story, but doesn’t let down the personal stories.’

The Daily Beast was equally impressed, calling it ‘a gripping saga of loyalty and self-destructiveness that’s elevated by riveting performances from Bateman and Jude Law.’

The Times took a diplomatic approach, acknowledging that ‘we’re served up a story that sometimes flirts with the implausible, but add Law, Bateman and a glossy production and any rough edges can be forgiven.’

However, not all critics were convinced.

Slate criticized the pacing, stating: “There’s so little variation in its eight-plus hours that its intensity becomes merely oppressive. The show keeps telling us it’s for real, but it’s writing checks that it can’t cash.”

Variety echoed concerns about character development, noting: “For these kinds of stories to work, the audience has to want to follow the protagonists down the namesake spiral that leads to their unravelling. That’s where this eight-episode show stumbles.”

Black Rabbit is set against the backdrop of New York’s high-pressure nightlife scene and follows two brothers whose lives spiral out of control when family loyalty collides with criminal ambition.

Jake Friedken, played by Jude Law, is the charismatic owner of Black Rabbit, a trendy restaurant and VIP lounge that’s become the toast of the city.

Everything changes when his troubled brother Vince, portrayed by Jason Bateman, unexpectedly returns to New York after years away.

What starts as a family reunion quickly descends into chaos as Vince drags Jake into the city’s criminal underworld, putting everything they’ve built at risk.

The official logline describes it as the story of ‘a rising-star restaurateur who is forced into New York’s criminal underworld when his chaotic brother returns to town with loan sharks on his trail.’

The supporting cast includes Cleopatra Coleman from Dopesick, Succession‘s Dagmara Dominczyk, and rising stars Amaka Okafor and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù.

Created by Zach Baylin, the series is described as a ‘propulsive thrill ride and character examination about the way an unbreakable bond between two brothers can shatter their world and everything in its orbit,’ per Elle.
