Tom Holland has admitted in a new interview that he has ‘lied through his teeth’ when promoting his ‘terrible’ movies.
The British actor has been in the headlines a lot recently with the release of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Holland has now opened up about how hard it is to fly around the world promoting his movies, especially when they are ‘s**t.’
He admitted that he often has to lie about whether or not an audience should go and watch the films.

From the West End to Hollywood
Tom Holland’s rise to fame has been one of Hollywood’s biggest success stories.
The English actor started performing at a young age and first gained attention on the West End stage, where he played the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical.
His dancing ability, athleticism, and natural charisma quickly caught the attention of casting directors, paving the way for a career on the big screen.
Holland landed his breakthrough film role in 2012 with The Impossible, starring alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

Tom Holland has admitted he has not always believed in every movie he has promoted, revealing there were times when he had to ‘lie through his teeth’ during press tours.
The Spider-Man star made the candid confession while discussing the difference between promoting projects he genuinely loves and those he would rather leave behind.
Holland is currently on the promotional trail for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and he said this press tour has felt very different from previous ones.
Speaking on the Dish podcast, Holland explained: “When you’re doing press for movies that you’re really proud of, it’s really easy because when they ask you questions about why people should go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone.”
He admitted that had not always been the case throughout his career.
“I’ve had experiences before when people say like, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back if your mind you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t. Because it’s s**t.’”
Holland added that actors often have no choice but to sell movies regardless of how they personally feel about the finished product.
“You have to lie through your teeth and say, ‘It’s the best thing ever. You have to go and see it.’”
This time around, however, Holland said he feels completely different.
Promoting The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been ‘a bit of a victory lap’ because he is genuinely proud of both projects.
“It’s felt really like a bit of a victory lap, to be honest. And I’ve really enjoyed it,” he said. “You know, I’m super proud of both of the films.”
Not all of Holland’s films have been well recieved….
Although Tom Holland never named the movies he struggled to promote, fans quickly began trying to work out which projects he meant.
Several of his non-Marvel films received lukewarm reviews, even though many critics still praised his performances.
One of the biggest disappointments was Chaos Walking, the long-delayed sci-fi adventure co-starring Daisy Ridley.
The movie earned just 21 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics arguing that it wasted an intriguing premise and failed to live up to Patrick Ness’ bestselling novels.
His 2021 drama Cherry, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, also divided opinion.
Holland played an Army veteran battling PTSD and drug addiction in what many saw as his most ambitious role to date.
While reviewers praised his commitment, they criticized the film itself, leaving it with a 37 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Apple TV+’s psychological thriller The Crowded Room fared little better with critics.
Despite Holland delivering an emotionally demanding performance, the limited series holds a 33 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.
The actor later admitted the negative reaction affected him, and he took a year-long break from acting after filming wrapped.
Even Uncharted, which proved a commercial success by grossing more than $400 million worldwide, failed to win over reviewers.
The video game adaptation currently sits at 41 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics arguing it fell short of the beloved game.
Reddit users have cast their vote on which film Holland is talking about in the r/entertainment thread.
One commenter said: “You can say Uncharted, Tom, they’re not making a sequel.”
Another added: “I’m 99% sure he’s talking about that one movie with Daisy Ridley no one saw.”
Someone else said: “You mean all the marvel stuff? Lol.”
Whichever past film he is talking about, at least he is getting positive reviews for his new ones.
