Viewers have been left horrified by a manhood on screen in a new horror movie.
The long-anticipated sequel, 28 Years Later, has left audiences gasping, though not entirely for the reasons one might expect.
While the film delivers its share of blood, horror, and apocalyptic tension, it’s the shockingly prominent anatomy of one zombie that has stolen the show, provoking a viral wave of commentary, critique, and curiosity.
The film, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, continues the gritty legacy of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, transporting viewers nearly three decades after the Rage Virus outbreak.
While society has crumbled, survivors remain, scattered across a desolate, infected U.K.
But among the swarms of the infected emerges a monstrous new leader: the Alpha, played by 6’8” actor Chi Lewis-Parry, who has become infamous not just for his brute strength, but for his massive, visible manhood.
“I don’t use the phrase ‘distractingly large’ lightly,” wrote Louis Peitzman for Vulture, noting that ‘the infected aren’t wearing clothes anymore, and all their private parts have become public.’
But even in a film filled with nude, frenzied creatures, the Alpha, dubbed ‘Samson’ by Ralph Fiennes’s eccentric Dr. Kelson, stands out.
“He is bigger, stronger, and distinctly more endowed than any of his compatriots,” Peitzman remarked, calling the appendage ‘a crude avatar for masculine power.’
Social media erupted. “It was impossible to focus on anything else,” one viewer tweeted.
Another described Samson as: “A Jason Momoa zombie with no shame.”

At the London premiere, Boyle explained the unexpected production challenges of having such explicit nudity, especially with 14-year-old Alfie Williams, who plays Spike, present on set.
“We never knew that going in, it was a nightmare,” Boyle told People. “Interestingly, because there was a 12-year-old boy on set, you’re not allowed for anybody to be naked, not really naked, so they look naked, but it’s all prosthetics.”
Boyle further elaborated: “The Child S** Offenses Act would put me in prison if I allowed him to see real genitals. So he has to look at absolutely false photo-real genitals, created by a prosthetics company.”
Lewis-Parry confirmed the prosthetics were a legal necessity and added with a laugh to Variety: “Yeah, they were prosthetics. There’s a law that states, I think, because he’s a child, you’re allowed to have nudity but it has to be fake nudity… I wouldn’t have been doing that if I was fully in the nip!”
When the outlet pressed Lewis-Parry on whether the prosthetic was ‘in proportion,’ he cheekily replied: “Well, I’m 6′8″. I’ll say no more!”

But is there more meaning behind Samson’s manhood than just shock value?
Peitzman seems to think so, writing: “Is he the alpha because he has a big d**k, or does he have a big d**k because he’s the alpha?”
The film’s themes of societal regression and primal instinct add weight to the theory.
The infected, now fully nude and driven by raw urges, are far removed from their once-human state.
In one chilling scene, Spike and Isla (Jodie Comer) encounter a pregnant infected woman giving birth to a healthy, rage-free baby, implying that even reproduction has returned to its most primal form.
Dr. Kelson’s cryptic remark, referring to the infected birth as the result of ‘the magic of placenta,’ leaves more questions than answers.

“Are these women turned before or after conception? What exactly do the infected do with healthy human babies?” Peitzman asks.
Despite the prosthetic origins, Samson’s presence and appendage have had a lasting impact.
“The p**is is front and center for a reason,” Peitzman concludes.

With Boyle and Garland already prepping 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and a third sequel planned, audiences may not have seen the last of Samson or his defining feature.
As for future entries, Boyle promises more of the same visceral world-building.
“I mean, if you’re recently infected, you’d have some clothes,” he told People. “But if you’ve been infected for a long time, the clothes would just disintegrate with the way that you behave.”
