Jenna Ortega has left fans devastated after making a heartbreaking confession.
Netflix‘s breakout star has made a series of heartbreaking admissions about her mental health struggles and the overwhelming pressures of sudden fame, leaving fans deeply concerned for the young actress’s well-being.
The 22-year-old Wednesday Addams actress recently opened up about her battles, and fans are really feeling for the star.
In an emotional interview that has since gone viral on Reddit, fans noted how the actress became visibly upset while discussing the stress of constant online scrutiny.
Reddit users have rallied around the actress, with many expressing concern about the impact of celebrity worship culture.
One fan wrote: “It’s not a new thing where fans are fixated and focused on movie stars and TV stars, but social media has magnified it x 1,000,000.”
Another supporter added: “She’s a frickin’ human being. As well as an adult. She doesn’t need thousands of complete strangers acting like her mother.”
“Poor Jenna: I wish I could give her a hug right now,” wrote another Reddit user. “Social media is terrible when people twist it, and the effects it has on young people are awful.”
Another fan commented: “She’s a wonderful girl. I just don’t know why, but it got me almost crying. I can’t see her upset like this. She’s an amazingly talented girl.”
Ortega’s mental health struggles have been compounded by the overwhelming attention that followed Wednesday’s record-breaking success.
The Netflix series became the platform’s most-watched English-language series ever after its 2022 release, catapulting the young actress into global stardom virtually overnight.
“Is anyone [ever ready for fame]? No, I wasn’t,” Ortega admitted to BBC culture correspondent Lizo Mzimba. “I wouldn’t want to know someone who is. I don’t think that should ever be like a normal sort of experience.”
The actress described the sudden fame as ‘very overwhelming,’ particularly because the cast had no expectations about the show’s potential success.
“We didn’t know that anyone was going to watch the show. You do these things and you don’t know what’s to come, so it was very overwhelming.”
During the filming of Wednesday’s first season, Ortega admitted she was ‘scared s***less’ and revealed the immense pressure left her unable to sleep.
Speaking to Radio Times, she confessed: “I didn’t know what I was doing. There was just an obscene amount of pressure and worry, and I wasn’t sleeping.”
The actress described how she threw herself completely into the role, conducting extensive research and spending countless hours outside of work trying to physically embody Wednesday’s character – from avoiding blinking to mastering the iconic character’s distinctive walk.

Ortega also revealed she struggled with ‘pretty intense’ OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) that often leaves her feeling completely ‘exhausted,’ while also revealing the devastating impact of social media scrutiny and invasive fan encounters.
Per Mayo Clinic: “Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears known as obsessions. These obsessions lead you to do repetitive behaviors, also called compulsions. These obsessions and compulsions get in the way of daily activities and cause a lot of distress.”
Speaking candidly on the Heart Evening show with Dev Griffin alongside co-star Paul Rudd, Ortega revealed the hidden toll her demanding career has taken on her mental health, Jang reports.
The actress confessed to suffering from severe OCD symptoms that become particularly intense when she’s exhausted from her grueling work schedule.
“It’s quite difficult, because we’re always travelling for work and it’s always a new environment,” Ortega explained, describing how the constant disruption makes it nearly impossible to maintain healthy routines.
“Whatever the job is you kind of have to create a new routine that you can only really stick to for six weeks.”
The actress revealed that her OCD manifests through repetitive thoughts, compulsive counting, and an overwhelming urge to repeat specific actions multiple times – symptoms that become significantly worse when she’s physically and mentally drained from work.

Perhaps most heartbreaking of all, Ortega revealed the disturbing nature of some fan interactions that have crossed serious boundaries.
The actress confessed that public encounters often leave her feeling anxious and unsafe.
“Somebody shouting your name in public is insane,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Sometimes I feel uncomfortable when it’s grown men approaching me.”
In an even more shocking revelation, Ortega shared instances where fans have verbally abused her in public simply because she couldn’t stop to engage with them.
“You don’t stop for somebody because you’re going to be late for something and they’re calling you a ‘c*** w****’ in front of your mother. It’s horrific,” she recalled.
Despite the overwhelming challenges, Ortega is set to return as Wednesday Addams in the highly anticipated second season, which premieres on Netflix on August 6, 2025.
The new season will feature an expanded role for the Addams family, with Catherine Zeta-Jones returning as Morticia and new cast members including Lady Gaga, Joanna Lumley, Steve Buscemi, and Billie Piper.
