Viewers were so shocked they fainted after watching a particularly graphic scene in a film you should ‘watch alone.’
The raunchy film, which is steeped in controversy due to its explicit s** scenes, was even banned in Turkey.
One viewer dubbed it ‘the wildest movie I’ve ever seen’ while another described it as an ‘odd movie.’
One watcher said: “Watch alone because its basically a p***o.”
Another person added: “It’s massively uncomfortable but I can’t make myself look away from it.”
What is the controversial film about?
The plot of the film centers on a self-diagnosed n*****maniac, who tells her story to a man who finds her beaten in an alley.
She recounts her experiences from birth to age 50 over eight chapters, detailing her s**ual journey, relationships, and struggles with addiction.
The narrative is framed by the conversations between her younger self, recounting her past, and the older, intellectual man, who offers his own, often strange, interpretations of her experiences.
The film, which comes in two volumes, stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, Stacy Martin, and Stellan Skarsgård, among others.
Shocking scene caused audience members to faint
As well as the film’s unsimulated depictions of s**, one scene was so jarring that three grown men had to be taken out of the theater during its premiere after they fainted.
The scene shows the movie’s main character performs an abortion on herself using household implements.
One person who watched the graphic film said: “I can never unsee that scene.”
What critics said
The critical reaction to Lars von Trier’s N*****manic was largely positive, though highly polarized, with reviewers generally praising its intellectual ambition, strong performances, and dark humor.
However, some found it pretentious, overly explicit, or emotionally cold.

Where to watch
N*****manic is the final instalment in von Trier’s informally titled Depression Trilogy, which also features Antichrist and Melancholia.
You can stream both volumes of N*****manic on Netflix and Kanopy in the USA.
You can also find the film available for rent or purchase on platforms like Apple TV, Fandango at Home (Vudu), and Plex.
